Since 2013, endangered pinnipeds - grey seals and (Baltic and Ladoga) ringed seals- have been rehabilitated at the premises of Repino wastewater treatment plant in the Kurortny District of St. Petersburg.

SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” provides drinking water to the population of 5.3 million people as well as to companies and organizations of the city.
Vodokanal’s water supply activities include the following:
St. Petersburg takes water from surface and underground sources.
The main water source is the Neva River.
Around 98% of water is taken from the Neva and treated at 5 major waterworks:
St. Petersburg water supply system is a complex of interconnected engineering structures providing uninterrupted potable water supply to the consumers. The system includes 9 waterworks, 187 boosting pumping stations and 7414 km of networks and 2 sodium hypochlorite production plants.
The whole water supply system is divided into water supply zones:
1. The Southern water supply zone (on the basis of the Southern Waterworks)
The system includes:
The Southern water supply zone provides potable water to Moskovsky, Frunzensky, Krasnoselsky, Kolpinsky, Kirovsky, Petrodvortsovy districts, as well as Kronstadt town, the left bank part of Nevsky district. Dudergofskaya Waterworks provides water to Krasnoe Selo.
2. The Northern water supply zone (on the basis of the Northern Waterworks)
The system includes:

3. The Central water supply zone

The system provides potable water to Petrogradsky, Tsentralny, Admiralteysky, Vasileostrovsky districts, part of Moskovsky, Kirovsky, Primorsky, Krasnogvardeysky, Frunzensky, Vyborgsky and Kalininsky districts.
