Today, on July 14, the delegation from Laos headed by the Ambassador of Laos in the Russian Federation Siviengphet Phetvorasack has visited Vodokanal of St. Petersburg. During the meeting the foreign guests got acquainted with the Company experience in water supply and water disposal.

First Deputy Director General of SUE "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" Alexander Danilov told foreign colleagues about the Company activities. Today, Vodokanal has reached great success in provision of water supply and wastewater disposal services. The system of water quality biomonitoring attracted special interest of Laos guests. Indigenous crayfish has been testing the Neva river water coming to the city WTPs for more than 10 years.

Irina Alekseeva, Deputy Director of Vodokanal Department of Technological Development and Environmental Protection, told about wastewater disposal system. She noted that all wastewater of our city had been discharged into water bodies without treatment until 1978. Today, the situation has changed fundamentally - 98.5% of wastewater is treated completely with biological process. In addition, since 2011, St. Petersburg has fully complied with the recommendations of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM): phosphorus content in total city wastewater discharge does not exceed 0.5 mg/l, nitrogen - 10 mg/l. This result was achieved, among other things, with introduction of chemical phosphorus removal at all wastewater treatment plants.

Irina Alekseeva also noted the Company operation in the field of sewage sludge utilization. Today, all sewage treatment sludge is incinerated at 3 specialized plants. The introduction of this technology has significantly reduced the environmental load on the environment, since the ash volume after sewage sludge incineration is 10 times less than the sewage sludge volume itself.

Viktor Kozlov, Director of the Information and Training Center told the guests from Laos about the Company educational activities and importance of ecological education of children and the youth. He emphasized that this work has been carried out for more than 15 years.

At the end of their visit, the delegation members had a tour at the territory of the Information and Training Center and visited the museum exhibition “The Universe of Water.

On July 13, First Deputy Director General of SUE Vodokanal of St. Petersburg Alexander Danilov took part in the meeting of Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Govorunov and Mayor of Vientiane (Capital of Laos) Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune.
