Fountains

SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” has operated fountains and fountain complexes since 1996.

Only twenty out of 350 fountains were operational at the time when the decision to transfer the city fountains to Vodokanal was taken, many of them in the state of emergency.

In1996-2008, the fountains at 24 addresses were transferred to economic management of SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg”. In this period the company rehabilitated 16 fountains at 13 addresses. The rehabilitation works were financed from own funds and the city budget.

New fountains in the most significant locations have been built in addition to the restoration of the existing fountains.

By 2008 Vodokanal has built 15 fountains and fountain complexes using its own and budgetary funds. In 2004, by the 300th anniversary of Kronshtadt Vodokanal put 5 fountains into operation including the first color-music fountain in St. Petersburg located in the garden at Gostiny Dvor.

Subsequently, SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” overhauled another three fountain complexes:

  • the color-music fountain complex in the square in front of Finlyandsky Station was put into operation on September 22th, 2005 (concurrently with the official start of the South-West Wastewater Treatment Plant);
  • the fountain complex in Moskovskaya Square and the floating fountain in the Neva near the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island were put into operation in 2006. The Target Programme of Major Overhaul of Fountains was approved in August 2008.
