Baltic Sea environmentOne of Vodokanal’s prioritized tasks is to mitigate the negative impact of the megalopolis on the environment, thus improving the environmental situation in the Baltic Sea region. Implementation of innovative technologies and advanced management approaches, creation of the integrated system of environmental management, quality and labour safety based on international standards ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 help Vodokanal to solve this task. Within this system measurable environmental and quality goals are specified and specific targets of their achievement are stated, systematic monitoring of target fulfillment and analysis of water supply and wastewater disposal efficiency is organized. Depending on the results, the environmental and quality goals for the next period are annually updated. The environmental, quality, occupational health and safety policies of the company are part of the general policy. It is implemented by means of development, selection and use of advanced environment protection and resource saving technologies, implementation of systematic and process-oriented approaches, training and motivation of the staff in order to improve continuously the quality of the key processes and corporate management systems. In 2003-2007 the Vodokanal managed to fulfill, to a large extent, its obligations stipulated in the Environmental Policy which was approved in 2003. For this reason, the Environmental Policy was updated in 2008, and new commitments were taken to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Due to the systematic approaches to Vodokanal’s environmental management and implementation of the process-oriented approach to production management the negative impact of the company activities on the environment is reducing and the quality of services provided to the citizens shows a positive trend. |
