Over 4 million Euro have been granted to Vodokanal St. Petersburg by the Ministry of the Environment of Finland as non-refundable technical assistance. The money will be used to buy pumping equipment for one important component of the Northern Tunnel Collector Extension Project – the Pumping Station to control wastewater flows.

Today, on 9 September, in the framework of official visit to St. Petersburg of the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II, Vodokanal St. Petersburg and the Danish Consortium represented by Danish Water Services signed the agreement on modernization of Vodokanal’s pumping stations. The main objective of cooperation under this agreement is to implement energy saving measures and to improve the environmental situation in the region.

The photography exhibition “Beneath the Waves of the Baltic Sea” opened on the territory of “The Universe of Water” museum complex (56 Shpalernaya St.). It displays the photographs made in the Northern part of the Baltic Sea. The author of the exhibits is a famous Finnish photo artist and diver Jukka Nurminen.

St. Petersburg has completed the international project Clean Baltic Sea. Since June 28, 2011 the city has been fully fulfilling the new recommendations of the Helsinki Commission for protection of the Baltic Sea – the amount of phosphorus in the city’s total treated effluent does not exceed 0.5 mg/l.

On Thursday, 16 June 2011, the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP) summarized the results of its 10-year work. SUE "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" hosted a conference where the participants discussed NDEP’s experience in the field of municipal investments in Russia, new perspectives of environmental cooperation between Russia and the EU and the experience and results of cooperation between Vodokanal St. Petersburg and NDEP.

Today, on 26 April 2011, the lift to the surface of the first tunneling machine assembly began. The tunneling machine was used to build, in the “floating earth” zone, the missing section of the Main Sewage Collector in the Northern Part of the City.

On 14 April, 2011, the tunneling of the extension of the Northern Tunnel Collector was completed: the tunneling machine passed the latest section of the second collector line, which is located in the flow earth zone.
