Museum complex «The Universe of Water” The museum complex of SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” includes the following:

• classic exhibition "The Water World of St. Petersburg" in the building of the old water tower is dedicated to the history of water supply and wastewater discharge in the world, in Russia and in St. Petersburg;
• multimedia exhibition "The Underground World of St. Petersburg" located in the left annex of the water tower displays the route of water from the water intake through pipelines into apartments and back to the sewage treatment plants;
• multimedia exhibition "The Universe of Water" located in the former clean water reservoir demonstrates, to the fullest extent, the intrinsic meaning of the word “water”, it displays water in all its manifestations, both constructive and destructive, with all its mysteries, enigmas and legends. All exhibitions in the museum complex are united by one common subject – strength, power and significance of water.

The Exhibition "Water World of St. Petersburg" was opened in the water tower (constructed in 1859-1862, architects E.G. Shubersky and I.A. Merts) by 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg – in 2003. At the International Forum of European Museums held in 2006 in Portugal, the Water World of St. Petersburg was awarded the title of “the European Museum 2006” and was marked very high for "its great achievements in the raising of social significance of museum collections". The museum officially represents Russia in the European Association of Water Museums. The exhibition was renovated in 2008.

The new exhibition "Universe of Water" was opened in the former clean water reservoir (constructed in 1887-1889, architects E.G. Shubersky and I.A. Merts) by the 150th anniversary of Vodokanal in autumn 2008. It combines multimedia technologies and effects, spatial and text objects. Images, sounds and color themes are changing making the exhibition changeful like water. This exhibition has no equals neither in Russia nor abroad in terms of elaboration and use of modern technologies. 32 films about water were specially produced for the Universe of Water. The films are continuously demonstrated on large screens. The films are about music of water, information memory of water, origin of water on the Earth, healing properties of water, water in ceremonies, floods in St. Petersburg……

Interactive forms of communication with visitors are used in the Universe of Water. There are programmes for the visitors of various ages but mainly for children.

“The Universe of Water” open hours:

Wednesday – Sunday (Monday and Tuesday - closed) 9.00 a.m. – 7.00 p.m.

Visits to the exhibitions “The Underground World of St. Petersburg” and “The Universe of Water” are only allowed with museum guides.

 Weekend excursions are organized for individual visitors (start at 12.15noon, 1.15p.m., 3.15p.m., 4.45p.m. and 6.15p.m.)

In the summer period excursions for individual visitors are offered on weekdays (start at 12.00 noon, 1.00p.m., 2.00p.m., 3.00p.m. and 4.00p.m.)
