The International Advanced Water Technologies Centre was established in January, 2011 jointly by SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" and Lahti Science and Business Park Ltd.

The Centre cooperates with the Northern Dimension Business Council (NDBC) working group on environment and nature conservation in the North-West of Russia and with the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP).

The Centre interacts and exchanges data with scientific, research, educational, environmental institutions and organizations, industrial enterprises, professional associations and public organizations in Russia and European countries.

Centre activities are aimed to achieve the following objectives:

• Organization of international cooperation for sustainability and water resource management;
• Sharing experience in the technologies applied in water supply and wastewater disposal, environment protection and sustainable use of natural resources;
• Accumulation, generalization and promotion of knowledge on innovations, both in the field of technologies applied and in water and wastewater management;
• Assistance in the promotion of innovations, both in the field of technologies applied and in water and wastewater management, aimed at the subsequent transfer of innovative solutions into the practice of Russian company management;
• Arrangement of events on exchange of information, ideas, process and management technologies in the water field.

Fields and types of the Centre activities:

1. Training of specialists in water and other industries

- in sustainability and water resource management;

- in wastewater process technologies and clean water production;

- in wastewater sludge process technologies and other biological waste.

2. Research work in the field of - water supply, wastewater disposal and laboratory research;

- up-to-date technologies in potable water treatment and wastewater treatment that allow to reduce the adverse impact on the environment;

- laboratory research and measurements in order to bring them into compliance with the technologies and methods applied in Europe.

3. Environmental and educational activities in the field of

- conservation and sustainable use of water resources;

- innovative technologies aimed to improve the environmental state of the Baltic Sea.

The Centre training program is diversified: it is designed both for specialists – experts in water and wastewater treatment, water quality control and students of specialized and other institutions of higher education, as well as senior high school students.

Educational Program for 2012

The program is built on a modular basis. The key aspects of training modules are the following:

• anthropogenic impacts on the Baltic Sea;
• best practices in the field of water supply and sanitation;
• laboratory research, environment protection and the use of water resources in the EU and Russia;
• raising the efficiency of production processes and operations.

The Centre training program is being implemented in the course of conferences, seminars, short-term trainings for specialists, interactive lessons for schoolchildren, lectures for students.

The Centre is a place of meeting for experts in water industry from the Northern Dimension countries, as well as a training and refresher courses centre for various stakeholders in order to gain good practices in producing clean water and wastewater treatment. You can take part in a seminar as a student and also submit your proposals in exchange of experience.
